Mooring line with variable lenght

Dear Alex,

We are trying to develop a subsea offshore installation model and the best method we found so far is using moordyn. However we found that probably it is not possible to vary the cable lenght.

Is there any way to do that?

Or should we try a different approach? What do you recomend.

Thank you very much,

Kind regards,

  • Hi Diogo, what do you mean by "varying the cable length"?

    Regards

  • Hi,

We are trying to simulate the descent of a mooring cable in the water until it reaches the sea bottom.

The cable should be fixed to a floating body at the water surface

we could always use a fixed length of the cable but we are trying to see if there is any way of varying its length at each time step to simulate the plunging of the cable connected with the floating body and it descent until it reaches the bottom.

Therefore we would need to vary the cable lenght (at each timestep, or in a defined rate...)

Do you have any idea if this is possible with the current DualSPHysics developments?

    kind regards,

    Diogo Neves

  • That is not possible using MoorDyn... sorry!!!!
