appropriate fluid particle count rule of thumb

hello,

Is there any way to guess what would be a proper number of fluid particles to be used for initialization for different types of physics problems?

  • Hi,

I would advice around 20 particles should be used to discretise the characteristic length as a minimum (i.e. flow around a sphere, min 20 particles to discretise the sphere diameter). This is of course is a rule of thumb, you might want to do a spatial convergence study and check (physics dependant).

    Cheers,

    George

  • Hello George, thanks. So If I have a internal flow with converging diverging channels, then I should try to have approx. 20 particles across the diam of the throat, if I am understanding correctly?

By the way, how do we check spatial convergence study?
