Wave breaking attention's meaning

edited December 2016 in DualSPHysics_v4.0
Hi DualSPHysics,

i've been simulating wave propagation using second order wave generation (wavepaddles function), the console gives me 3 warnings :
1.wave breaking for achieved steepness
2.wave breaking for depth limitation
3.Madsen criterion is not statisfied

i understand madsen criterion from the guide, but how about the first two? can someone give me explanation about those.

thank you

  • Hi
The above matters are related to the wave theories! The most reliable wave theory that can describe wave breaking is Fenton.
However, it is highly recommended to validate the SPH code with measured Experimental works, NOT by wave theories.

  • We are now waiting for the publication of a journal paper where we have validation not only against theoretical values but also with experimental data.
Comparison with wave theory is a first step very important.

  • Glad to hear this!
Would you mind please share the Experimental work that you used for validation?
