the difference of lattice="1"and"2"

could anyone tell me the difference of lattice="1" and "2",and how should i choose the number of lattice? if you know that ,tell me please. Thank you.

My suggestion is to use always lattice=1.
Only some peculiar cases will need lattice=2.

Thank you very much. I have read the XML_Guide. And I have noticed the page 9 of the XML_Guide. I only don't understand the difference of lattice="1" and "2".so I want to learn aout what the condition of using lattice=1 or 2 is.
