Wave Generation

edited January 2016 in Old versions
hi all,

I am using the template case file CASEWAVEMAKER. I want to generate regular waves with H=0.1m and T=1.3s. In the xml file, the motion of the piston is defined, however I am not sure what vales i should put in for some of the parameters.

Example in CASEWAVEMAKER:
motion
objreal ref="10"
begin finish="100" start="0" mov="1"
mvrectsinu next="2" duration="5" id="1"
freq z="0" y="0" x="0.5"
ampl z="0" y="0" x="0.25"
phase z="0" y="0" x="4.71238898"
mvrectsinu

What the values of the freq, ampl and phase can be for H=0.1, T=1.3s waves? And how can I work that out? This is probably a silly question......

Thanks

  • Sorry, but yes IT IS ;)

    Solutions for you now:

    - use software that computes the stroke and frequency of the piston to create the desired waves or use online applications from: http://www.coastal.udel.edu/faculty/rad/wavetheory.html

    - new release of DualSPHysics, version 4.0 will include automatic wave generation with H,T,d as input and then stroke of the piston is automatically calculated for regular waves and irreguar spectra
