Sponge Layer

I am modeling a numerical wave tank. At the right side, the sponge layer is put, as a non-reflecting boundary.
How can I simulate this boundary in SPH?

Thanks

  • You can find some examples in SPH literature.

  • Dear Admin
I have similar problem. How can I model a sponge layer (as an absorber) at end side of a wave tank in dualsphysics? Practically, is it considered in dualshpysics model?
    Thanks
  • You can modify the final value of velocity using a factor that depends on the position in your area of sponge:
    For example in:
Ren et al., Nonlinear simulations of wave-induced motions of a freely floating
body using WCSPH method. Applied Ocean Research 50 (2015) 1–12
    page 6-7, equation 25

You can also use a ramp as dissipative beach

  • Dear Alex

Thank you for your valuable recommendations. I have two another questions:

1- Is it possible to model Sponge layer in original Dualsphysics 3.2 without change in its source files? how?

2- When I want to model generated waves due to impact of a rigid body (such as a Meteors), is it reasonable to use dissipative beach to simulate open sea boundary?

    Best Regards
