Kernel and Hughes BC Corrections

edited July 2014 in Old versions
Hi,

Can anyone confirm whether or not version 3.0 supports kernel and/or Hughes BC corrections? I have used them in my v3.0 simulations, but I am not sure if they are actually doing anything.

Many thanks.

  • Dear,

as explained in other posts of the forum, kernel gradient correction and Hughes BC correction were removed from version 3.0

kernel gradient correction was implemented in v1.0 and v2.0 since 1) it is mathematically more correct and 2) you assure angular and linear momentum conservation. However, in practice, simulations results more unstable and we have to solve a 4x4 matrix which makes the GPU computation complex for begineers.

hughes BC corrections is just a trick to avoid fluid move closer to boundaries, but this is a problem inherent to the dynamic boundary conditions we are using. our BC present advantages and drawbacks and we are now working on new and better approaches
