Is DualSPHysics can be used for the simulation of failure process of the solid materials?
Such as, Soil, Rock and other geotechnical materials?
Thanks a lot!

  • Dear Henry,

Currently, DualSPHysics only deals with single phase Newtonian flows by approximating the N-S, i.e. liquids.
If you want to use SPH and DualSPHysics for soil failure and debris flow I am afraid you will have to code your own fail criteria/constitutive models.

I am currently developing a multi-phase model that deals with such phenomena but it is not going to be released to the wild for a while.

    Best of luck,

    Dear George,
Since I know that this code can only treat Newtonian flows, and the viscosity value is set and fixed in the XML file, How can I do if I want treat a non-Newtonian flow with a varying viscosity after every timestep?
  • Hi,

We are in the process of releasing a non-Newtonian formulation soon.
Right now, without modifying the code you can only use Newtonian behaviour.

    Thanks,
    George
  • Hi,George,
If I want to simulate non_Newtonian flows, Can you give me some suggestion about how to modify the code?
    Thanks a lot!
