Problem of elevation

Hello, I calculated the waveheight according to the calculation example in DualSPHysics_v5.0\examples\main\08_WavesFlap\CaseFlapBeach_REG_Def.xml as shown in the figure below.

It is a little bit different from the standard wave height of 1.5, and the wave height gradually decays a little with the increase of distance. Is this a normal error? Is there a way to reduce the decays when increase the tank length to 15m and even long? Change the coefh value or reduce the dp of particle ?

Thank you.

  • Increasing coefh will be improve the wave propagation and will palliate the wave decay.

However with standard SPH formulation wave decay can take place after several wavelengths.

Using deltaSPH you can also reduce wave decay in space... but online version does not include a solution to prevent wave decay for long distances. Other implementations such as ALE and Riemann Solvers are more suitable to deal with that.

However note that SPH is not designed for wave propagation but only for wave-structure interaction, so we do not recommend to propagate waves more than 2-4 wave lengths. YOu can also use the coupling between SPH and wave propagation models if needed.
