How can I "unlink" an object in VIsualSPHysics?

I have imported a vtk fluid mesh from DualSPHysics into Blender. Now I want to cut it in half using the boolean tool and then render it. I can easily cut it in half, but the moment I hit render, Blender loads the full vtk file again. How can I circumvent this?

Just found a small hack, remove ".vtk" from here:
It will not be able to load vtk files and keep your changes to the model. This is of course not suitable for animations.

No problem! Another solution is also to simply just import a file from a specific time step, but I find it easier to scroll through in Blender and then select :-)
